Camp Bisco isn't the only music event this weekend ---and surprisingly, it may not be the strangest, either. No, that distinction totally belongs to Sawfest. Saturday's all day affair, to be held on the 119 acre grounds of Salem Art Works (SAW), is described as a "music/sound/poetry/transmission event." As best as we can figure, SAW is a farm where they don't grow corn or raise chickens, they make art. As for Sawfest, the band we'd really like to see is Neptune. Part rock show/part kinetic sculpture, they play instruments made from trash and found objects ---there will also be a good helping of folk and blues, so let's just say there's something for everyone.

How could you not love a kids band that does a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Rock and Roll"? Or a band that transforms The Ramones "I Wanna Be Sedated" into "I Wanna Be Elated"? Combine that with juggling and puppets and you've got The Sippy Cups, arguably the coolest group for the under-eight crowd ever. Hip parents will like The Sippy Cups, too, who are headlining Sunday's GE Kids Day at the Empire State Plaza. There will plenty to do between noon and 5pm, but keep an eye out for the kite building workshop. We saw this at the balloon festival in Glens Falls a couple of years ago, and it's a really great hands-on activity ---for children of all ages.

Take it off folks, because it's National Nude Recreation Week. If you've ever been curious about getting nude somewhere besides behind closed doors, this weekend is your opportunity. Juniper Woods, the clothing optional park and campground in Athens is hosting a special event Saturday with co-sponsors, the Northern Exposure Sun Club. Come to the open house at Juniper Woods on Saturday and they'll waive the admission fee. The long range forecast for Saturday is sunny and 89 degrees, which to us sounds like perfect get naked weather. Don't forget the sunscreen. One thing: we went to the web site for Northern Exposure and there's a picture of cartoon moose ---but the moose is dressed. Puzzling.

518 Living's taking the weekend off, but first we went down to the Empire State Plaza to watch the guys from Alonzo Fireworks get ready for tonight's giant pyrotechnic extravaganza.
Those aren't your tax dollars exploding over The Egg; Price Chopper foots the bill for the day's festivities, which start at 2pm. This is the largest show Jeff Alonzo will stage over the holdiay weekend. His company is putting on 54 Independence Day displays this season ---and 20 of those are today.

We thought it would be a great idea to bring you a list of where you can go see fireworks this weekend ---that was until we found out how much work it is listing all the places you can go see fireworks this weekend. Who knew? Anyway, we forged ahead and came up with the best list we could. No guarantee that it's absolutely complete, but what do want, this is the internet. For example: many events list their start time as "dusk", which to us sounds open to interpretation. Do yourself a favor and plan on being there when it starts getting dark . The whole ridiculously long list is up after the jump.
