Maybe you'd rather see a movie tonight than stumble around from bar to bar in downtown Albany. There are a couple of good options for late night Halloween fun this evening. At The Linda you can see "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at 11pm; if you are not hip to what these screenings are all about, please go here and do a little research.
Over at Proctors, in the town where Halloween officially ends at 8pm, It Came From Schenectady's Halloween Horror Film Fest kicks off at 11pm. The fest features Bruce Campbell in his greatest role, in "Evil Dead II," Todd Browning's classic "Freaks," and the US premier of "Home Movie," recently shown at various Canadian horror movie festivals. See the trailer here. |

We were all kinds of stoked to see the new Guy Ritchie Brit gangster movie "RocknRolla" ---and seeing that it was opening in "selected cities," we figured hey, this must be a selected city, right? Probably playing at the Spectrum, or something, correct? Wrong. Apparently, the "selected cities" are New York, LA, and Toronto, so us folks in ordinary cities will have to wait until October 31. Until then, enjoy the trailer. |

Governor David Paterson comes off a bit geeky, wouldn't you say? This bubbled to the surface in a big way during yesterday's testy meeting with legislative leaders. Explaining his philosophy in dealing with the state's financial crisis, Paterson said: "It's kinda like 'Luke fly the plane,' you have to feel it and you have to respond to it and this is what we're attempting to do right now." Hah! Not and exact Star Wars reference ("Use the force, Luke.") But good enough for government work. We could spend all day debating which Star Wars characters state lawmakers are (Sheldon Silver: Yoda or Darth Vader) but this is not the time or place. That said, here's a fun place to start in determining someone's Star Wars personality. |

We'd be remiss not to mention that The Palace is showing "The Wizard of Oz" tonight at 7pm. For just $5 you'll see one of the great movies of all time as it was meant to be seen: on a huge screen in a big theatre. One thing to consider, though: even though this movie is seventy-years-old, it has not lost its power to frighten young children witless. If your little ones are especially sensitive, just remember that this can be a scary movie. |

It took us about 30 seconds to find pictures from the "Taking Woodstock" shoot on the internet. The most interesting were cell phone shots taken by "T3MP35T", an extra in the film who describes herself as an archaeologist from Troy, however, her pics were taken down this morning ---probably so she wouldn't get canned.
You can see some other pictures here and here and here ---and here's Ang Lee conducting the traditional "big luck" ceremony he does on the first day of shooting. I guess he forgot to do that before filming started on "The Hulk."
By the way: If you think this week's closing of Rt 43 was inconvenient, wait until next week when "Taking Woodstock" shuts down Rt. 20 in New Lebanon. |
