Tickets are still available to see Arlo Guthrie tonight at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall. This is not Guthrie's first Thanksgiving season concert at the venue and hopefully it won't be his last, but as usual you can expect to hear he song that's as much a part of Thanksgiving as mashed potatoes: Alice's Restaurant. The 18-plus minute classic (formally titled Alice's Restaurant Massacree) was released in 1967, but when performing live, Guthrie usually spruces up the lyrics with some topical content. there's no shortage of that this year. As for the real restaurant in the song, it was operated for years as Theresa's Stockbridge Cafe but is now closed ---but when in Stockbridge you can visit the adjoining Main Street Cafe; you can't get anything you want there, but you can probably find breakfast or a sandwich. |

Our favorite local band is taking a detour from the road to help out an area charity. The Felice Brothers, who hail from Palenville, will play a show Saturday night in Catskill to benefit the Hudson Valley Food Pantry. They have a bit of a drive ahead of them. The band plays a gig tonight in Boulder, Colorado and according to Google Maps, that's one day and four hours of continuous travelling in the RV that carries them around America. They should have time to catch some shuteye before the show. You can read a good interview LAist did with piano player/accordionist right here. An excerpt:
Would you rather be burned alive or frozen to death? James: Frozen to death. Why? James: I think it's less frightening that way. I mean, it would probably hurt at first, but then you’d just fade away. Also when they find you you’ll be in one piece for your mother, and that's important.

Wow...talk about cute. A girl playing the ukulele singing about riding the bus! But that's not just any girl though, it's Saratoga's Sarah Pedinotti. Maybe you've heard her and her band on WEXT or been lucky enough to see them live ---and soon you'll hear her bus song on commercials for CDTA. By the way, Pedinotti's band just changed their name to Railbird and you can catch them at The Egg on November 7.

Phish frontman Trey Anastasio made note of Albany's stinky air onstage at a show in Burlington Sunday night. Brent Hallenbeck of the Burlington Free Press was at the show. He wrote of Anastasio:
He finally spoke to the crowd with a sheepish “thank you” before
mentioning that he made the drive from the previous night’s show in
Albany, N.Y., into Vermont and instantly noticed the air was cleaner. “It’s the most incredible feeling. I can’t explain it,” he said, smiling broadly. “I’m so happy to be here.”
Glad you're glad, Trey. Did you drive through Whitehall on the way home? |

Here's the short version: John Lennon was a founding member of The Quarrymen ---then after Paul McCartney and George Harrison joined the band, they eventually went on to become The Beatles. You know that part, but whatever happened to the other guys in the band? Find out on Tuesday when The Quarrymen play at The Arts Center in Troy. Tickets are $30 ($25 for members); call (518) 273-0552 x231. It's mind boggling to think what must have gone through these guys minds watching what happened to The Beatles ----like Colin Hanton (center in the picture) who after an argument with the band was ultimately replaced by Pete Best.
