Dori Marlin, who has always kinda sorta reminded us of Julia Roberts, is fleeing leaving WTEN and going to work at channel 6. Marlin will be joining WRGB by the end of November and will be anchoring with Greg Floyd at 6, 6:30, 10. That's sounds like a lot of Greg Floyd time, if you ask us. She'll also anchor that ten minute thing they do on The CW. WRGB promotion manager-turned news director Lisa Jackson said: "Dori has a natural ability to connect with viewers. She’s genuine and sincere about communicating how the day’s news affects families here in the Capital Region."

At the conclusion of the season premier of Law & Order last night, a reporter can be heard shouting to DA Jack McCoy, "Mr. McCoy, is it true you’ve been asked to join the Obama Administration?" Now THAT is of the moment, is it not? On the very evening that America was still going ga-ga over the election, the producers managed a very sly nod to current events. It seems unlikely that the show had a "McCain" line ready; despite his tough on crime stance, McCoy (Sam Waterston) is obviously a Democrat. We'll post some video when we find it...Cue the CHU-CHUNG sound effect.

Imagine if one of your favorite local TV stations suddenly disappeared from Time Warner Cable. Sounds crazy, right? Well it's not so crazy if you live in Buffalo, where a dispute between Time Warner and WIVB (CBS) has forced the station off the cable system. WIVB's owner LIN TV of Rhode Island thinks Time Warner should pay for its signal, and now the two are at loggerheads over a re-transmission deal. Even the governor's gotten involved. So what, right? Not so what if you like those CSI shows or you're 70 years-old and you love your Price Is Right ---or you are...oh...let's say A BUFFALO BILLS FAN. I don't know about you, but we'd be on the phone with DirectTV in about five seconds.
The funny thing about all this? Local TV stations are far and away the most watched channels on any cable system. |

Congratulations to Zach Hanniford and Brian Sykes of Boy Scout Troop 128 in Whitehall! Hanniford and Sykes were recently featured on national morning news show Today Now talking about their Eagle Scout project: an informational campaign to teach women about breast self exam techniques. Yes, that's former WRGB anchor Brad Holbrook at the beginning of the segment. You can see more here...

Most football fans are stuck with what's on the big networks each weekend, sometimes subject to the whim of local stations who decide which games you watch. Not so with Direct TV, where you can get NFL Sunday Ticket and watch EVERY GAME ---and with their Super Fan option you get lots more. The TU's Pete Dougherty wrote this week about one of the amazing extras, the Red Zone Channel, which exclusively and simultaneously shows all action around the league where teams are in scoring position. Read his amazing minute-by-minute liveblog of Sunday's Red Zone Channel here. |
