Got Radon? E-mail
Friday, 13 June 2008

RadonGuilderland High School says they've discovered elevated levels of radon in several areas of the school; not enough to evacuate the place, but enough to warrant more extensive testing. This got us wondering how to check for radon at home. Kidde, the smoke alarm and fire extinguisher people, sell a simple test kit that you can find at Lowes for about $16. You can get a test kit from NY State for just $6.75, but it may take 4-6 weeks to arrive. Set it up in your house for a period of time and then mail it in to the lab ---they send you back the results. Recently there have been stories -like this one on WNYT- about people actually bringing radon into their home by way of granite counter tops. You can test for that, too. No worry in our house; we can't afford granite counter tops.
