Albany and Schenectady High School went head to head this week in a rematch of this season's most dramatic contest so far: Schenectady's 140-101 victory over Albany on May 14. We're referring of course to cricket. While it's one of the world's most popular sports, cricket is still pretty obscure in The 518. There are a number of adult teams in the area, including those fielded by the Tri-City Cricket Club and the West Hills club in Albany, and there are several collegiate club teams ---but those at Albany and Schenectady are the only high school teams. Enthusiasts are quick to tell you that cricket is the father of American baseball, not Abner Doubleday. We watched for an hour without quite figuring out what was going on, but like a lot of guys, we'll watch just about anything that involves tossing a ball around. See some pictures from the match and read results after the read more.
Here's a re-cap of the action from Albany cricket coach Stuart Taylor: "Albany won by 6 wickets. Schenectady scored 135 for 5 off their 20 overs and in reply Albany reached 136 for 4. Andre Dunn was Albany's top scorer with 59 not out and received the best batsman award. Noel Hubert was Albany's best bowler." Very good, carry on.
